Speaking to Educators

Mark Wilson has keynoted at colleges, national and state conferences, for associations and for educational service agencies. In these settings, Mark is different than other keynote speakers. Leaning on his twenty-five years of experience in the classroom, Mark challenges the audience just as he has always done his students. The members of the audience will know what their goals are, interact with each other and the material, and then leave with something in their hands and an action to complete after the conference. Mark has often stated his “72-hour rule” for conferences, that “unless you take action on what you’ve learned at a conference within 72 hours, the message may be lost forever.” In his quest to share his experience and help others improve theirs, Mark challenges his audiences to take action, and with a creative touch leaves them with a plan to “keep the learning alive.”

Mark customizes his presentations to meet the unique needs of each audience (he is a teacher, after all) and will work with each conference planner to deliver a relevant and rewarding program. Dr. Wilson has spoken on dozens and dozens of subjects (from classroom management to addiction prevention; from teacher preparation to the importance of the Arts, just to name a few) and is ready to meet your needs for you and your organization. Each of his presentations carry a few common themes--- a passion for learning, a calling to service, and a commitment to success. Brought with humor, stories rich in meaning, and reseach-based yet practical ways to reach success, Mark’s presentations reach both the head and the heart.

Culture!  The Not-so-Secret Ingredient to Success at School
Thousands of educators have heard Dr. Wilson, either at his school or in a presentation, talk about School Climate and Culture, seeking to find out HOW to bring about change, student engagement, deep commitment, and success.  This interactive, engaging presentation will share the story of how the right climate and culture paved the way for a record number of graduates, AP Honor Students, acceptance to selective colleges, and overall success of students.

Lessons about school culture are presented by one of the nation’s most recognized voices in this often-neglected but powerful area of school success.  This presentation is about culture in the individual classroom, as well as the overall climate of the school.

Uncommon Leadership for the Common Core
School leaders will carry the responsibility of providing for a successful implementation of the Common Core Curriculum, but this is not an ordinary rollout of a program or a plan!  A successful implementation of the Common Core will bring about fundamental changes to the way we conduct our classrooms and schools.  What’s a leader to do?  Leaders need someone to cut through the maze and bring the product and the process together in a practical format for action.

Mark Wilson has been on the cutting edge of school innovation and has been recognized for his ability to successfully bring about change at the school level.  This presentation is to help the leaders (principals, assistant principals, curriculum leaders, department heads) have the strategies necessary to bring about such significant change.  While you may find out what you should be doing in other presentations, this program is specifically designed to show you how to make this change successfully in your school.

The Three Ws:  What Students Need from Schools
We had the original three Rs (Reading, ‘Riting, and ‘Rithmetic), and the late 20th Century retooling of the same (Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships).  Each have laid an excellent groundwork for learning.  As we rapidly fly into the digital Three W'sworld of the 21st Century, it’s time to focus on three “Ws” regarding our students… what they know, what they can do, and what kind of people they are becoming.  In the effort to measure the “progress” of students, the effectiveness of teachers and principals, and the value of schools, we have scarcely covered even one of the Ws!  The others are of equal importance, and educators must answer to a higher calling than the accountability structure in meeting the long-term needs of our children.  We can’t ignore the mandates, so we must provide for the needs of our students in addition to all of the other things we must do.  Sounds easy?  It’s not.  Find out in this engaging, enlightening, and transforming presentation what we must do in  our schools and how it can make the mandates easier to reach!

Dr. Wilson was the first to coin “The Three Ws” several years ago and has used the promise of genuine success (beyond school measures) to drive a movement that is honest, genuine and reaches the academic needs of students as well as the things they carry with them forever.
This presentation will inspire you to change the way you conduct your classroom, your school and yourself!  With exciting stories of hope and triumph, this message ends with a call to action and an opportunity for you to bring more to your students , school and community.

"I have an idea..." How the Arts Fueled Succes at Our School

As we work to meet the standards of the Common Core Curriculum in state across America, will we remember the importance of creativity and the Arts? Without a renewed emphasis on both, we could be working harder and harder but leading students further away from the tools they need to be successful.

Mark Wilson combines the most recent research in the importance of creativity and the Arts in schools with experiences from his years as a school administrator. This presentation is designed to do two things:
1) Clearly highlight the importance of the Arts in schools; and
2) share HOW to incorporate the Arts and creativity into the fabric of a school while increasing the overall academic achievement of students.
